Purpose and goal
The project´s purpose is to establish a cooperation between the Department of Applied IT, Gothenburg University (GU) and the Ying Wu College of Computing, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) through a collaborative research project between Dr Gaudl from GU and Dr Hoover from NJIT by hosting Dr Hoover at GU in a number of research visits over the next 12 months. The project goal is to investigate and develop generative AI tools and approaches including educational material in the domain of sound and music generation in an academic and educational setting.
Expected effects and result
The project focuses on creative tool research and knowledge exchange in STEAM education, disseminated through papers, articles, talks, and online material for the wider society. Current usage of generative AI approaches by non-experts is common & often wasteful as sustainable or tailored solutions and accessible learning material/guidelines are rarely available to them. We will approach this issue by providing material and guidelines on useful platforms and tools, which, given the wide usage in our society, have the potential for a positive impact.
Planned approach and implementation
We planned for 3 research visits, in November 2023, in June 2024 and in Oct 2024. The team will work on the proposed project and develop new teaching material on generative AI approaches. The project aims to: Analyse current models & creative tools on their ease of integration, sustainability & expressivity. Develop a framework for understanding approaches based on their quality, sustainability and applicability. Disseminate the work through material that can be used in teaching but will also be publicly explorable.
