Important results from the project

The pre-study pertained the demonstration of new digital solutions with Kalmar County´s rail traffic as a test-bed. The purpose of finding new tools for the railway sector and social benefits/financial gains through digital solutions, and a future goal of reducing the number of train stops and delays, has been confirmed during the pre-study. As a basis for continued analysis and research of opportunities concerning mainly future social benefits and environmental and economic gains, a report with questions has been produced, and application for a major RoI-project is ongoing.

Expected long term effects

As a result of the pre-study with valuable experience regarding installation, technology and operation, and developed requirements specifications for software development to future commercial operation, Trackoptic´s REPLAY service will be able to be implemented at a larger pilot installation with test operation, and then be released on the market preliminary autumn 2019. Expected effects are reduced number of train stops and delays, as well as reduced unnecessary police and ambulance when a animal collision can be detected by immediate film review.

Approach and implementation

The implementation has consisted of productive meetings between the project partners with exchange of experience and discussions about needs and ideas of new digitized working methods and services for the rail industry. Based on these meetings and together with the collection of reference materials, Niras Sweden AB has produced the report "Indicative social benefits with cameras on trains". Together with project documentation where challenges regarding practical installation and operation have been utilized, this has provided the desired basis for an upcoming RoI-project.
