SME 2D-TECH: Mutlifunctional composite membranes

Important results from the project

The SME-project was initiated within the frames of the Vinnova Competence center 2D-Tech. The objectives and results were largely as expected. The most important results were that i) the project developed capabilities to fabricate and characterize polymer-2D material composite membranes using standardized and reproducible methods and that ii) variations in membrane performance as a function of the 2D material and matrix properties could be distinguished. The objective that was not fully realized was the benchmarking of the membrane performance against several commercial applications.

Expected long term effects

A generally stronger innovative power and improved innovative capacity. Shorter and more efficient processes for product development, especially up to TRL level 4-5, which in the long term is expected to strengthen the ability to sell both new products and development projects.

Approach and implementation

The project had only one participant and was carried out in two work packages. The project did not develop quite as planned, as both internal challenges and equipment deliveries delayed the processes. The scope of the project therefore had to be reduced slightly and the schedule revised. The most important goals and results could still be achieved and the unexpectedly large challenges have also provided important and useful lessons. Collaborations with external partners have worked well.
