Important results from the project
Smart steel II has had a strong focus on creating value from information exchange downstream in the steel production, which have been achieved by creating a basis for SSAB and SMT´s digital technical customer interaction. FindIT has worked with revival and Dimecc has been our contact into the Finnish context where they continue to discuss the complexity of the ecosystem required to realize the vision. LTU and Swerim have worked with the very premise of the vision; future solutions for individual product ID.
Expected long term effects
The project has overall led to gained knowledge about complexity of data driven business models, new ideas of implementing technology and new digitalization strategies. It has raised awareness of how to address questions like ownership of data, value of process and material data, data share, technology readiness for measuring and data collection.
Approach and implementation
The work has been performed via two piloting study cases for SMT and SSAB respectively, where the correlation between processing data and product data as well as business benefits has been studies. These has also specified the need for technology development. This has proven to be a good methodology where complex problems can be tested and evaluated.
