Important results from the project

With the Smart Library - Bibbi project, we have launched functionality in several platforms that aims to give libraries extended tools to work with the digital borrower´s love of reading, regardless of their conditions. Through recommendation lists, they can now meet the digital borrower in a similar way as when they set up themed shelves in the physical library. The combination with the AI-generated personal recommendations gives the borrower more opportunities to find an interesting book to read, and all borrowers a closer relationship with their library.

Expected long term effects

When libraries get tools to work with reading guidance also with the digital borrower, the conditions for reaching operational goals are strengthened and broadened. We have launched functionality directly aimed at this. We have given the borrower more inputs to find books to read, where personal recommendations and the library´s lists work together to create a personal commitment on the part of the borrower and increased equal access to the library´s services. We expect effects such as increased reading, strengthened reading skills and greater equality for library borrowers.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out according to an agile system development method where we have worked continuously to prioritize development based on the project´s goals. We started the project work with a research phase in collaboration with UX expertise where we established the project´s impact goals and target groups. This then resulted in prototypes that were the basis for the development. We have continuously consulted accessibility experts; lawyers regarding GDPR; in addition to the reference group of library customers.
