SIP STRIM Performance Assessment and Sustianability Baseline

Reference number
Coordinator Luleå tekniska universitet - Avdelningen för Mineral och metallurgi
Funding from Vinnova SEK 993 000
Project duration October 2017 - December 2019
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The aims were: (i) to develop and populate a database on sustainability aspects of the Swedish mining and minerals’ cluster, using publicly available data; and (ii) to use this database to evaluate whether the goals of SIP STRIM are being reached. Both aims these were reached.

Expected long term effects

The project has established a baseline as well as a time series of sustainability data. The project further found both significant improvements as well as some issues of concern. These findings may be used to guide the future development of the sector, as well as to follow up programmes such as Swedish Mining Innovation in the future.

Approach and implementation

The evaluations were done against Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), and using existing data that companies and countries are already committed to collecting and disseminating were used. Evaluations were done on three main levels, namely: (i) the national level; (ii) the corporate level; and (iii) the mine site or processing site level. The data were also benchmarked against international data, drawn from selected companies, countries and other relevant organisations.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
