Purpose and goal
The development of LIGHTer´s research student training and networking arena is an initiative within The Lightweight Innovation Programme´s fifth innovation mechanism, competence development and expertise chains. The arena activities are devoted to education of PhD students in disciplines with potential impact on lightweight innovation. From their enrollment students will be introduced in a national lightweight technology network consisting of researchers in industry and academia.
Expected effects and result
The networking activities comprise of common courses, workshops and an annual research student conference. LIGHTer is devoted to establish and run the arena with following objectives: a) Train highly educated professionals for Swedish industry b) Train researchers in research and education in lightweight technology for sustainable growth c) Bring cutting edge technology and know-how to Swedish companies d) Establish a sustainable network of researchers within Sweden with strong international connections e) Evaluate the 10 years of network and identify its strength and future
Planned approach and implementation
The network is hosted by Luleå University of Technology who is managing and developing the concept together with Chalmers University of Technology, The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and RISE. The network is open for students involved in relevant research at Swedish universities. All participants take part in a basic course in lightweight technologies. The course comprises of academic studies in conjunction with study visits and presentations concerning industrial strategies for lightweight design. The participants are offered core courses and seminars.
