Important results from the project
The aim has been to develop sustainable and cost-effective concept for the industrial use of Sioos environmentally friendly system for the protection of wood. The project view and compliance has resulted in - New unique products (receipt) with increased performance and durability - New products with new pigments with increased binding to wood - A better understanding of the mechanism of Sioos penetration and bonding to wood - The most important results are protected in a new patent in December 2015 - Key findings for industrial scale applications with large wood manufacturers.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in a unique new sustainable products and product concepts with reduced environmental impact when they are in competition out fossil oil products. The new products launched in 2016 and will lead to expansion both in Sweden and internationally. Initially, this takes place in Germany, England and the United States. The number of employees at the Sioo increases and the new products replacing environmentally harmful chemicals globally. Production at Sioos premises in Sävedalen is booming. Some production has also been subcontracted.
Approach and implementation
Project leader has been Herje Boström CEO of Sioo Wood Protection AB and the project has been implemented within an R & D team in collaboration with leading experts at universities, institutes and industry, as Chalmers Industrial Technology, SP, Swerea IVF, and others. The results show that the R & D team has worked very well and the research has led to many tangible results for the benefit of Sioos future competitiveness and continued expansion nationally and globally. The research has not only resulted in new products, but also new knowledge of the mechanism how Sioo binds to the wood.
