Important results from the project
The purpose of gaining a better understanding of, and the conditions, challenges and opportunities, around creating a platform for sharing electricity between households and electric car drivers has become very clear in the Sharging project. The next step is to look at an ecosystem of companies and organizations to run this rather than an isolated business. An ecosystem that enters with different interests and driving forces: users, facilitators, integrators and operators. In a landscape where rules, technology and infrastructure also play a crucial role.
Expected long term effects
The result of the Sharging project is rather a greater understanding of the challenges associated with creating a platform for sharing assets. Where the challenges are both system development and financial flows as well as general attitude and maturity. To then also take into account the disruptive year 2020, which in the first half of the project did not seem to affect much got more such in the second half. Our goal of understanding the monetary value of Sharging is still somewhat remote, but an ecosystem of companies has been identified ahead of a step two.
Approach and implementation
The plan for this project was to, with the help of user studies, gain a better understanding of the interest in sharing electricity from households to electric car drivers and then, based on this, explore possible business models for building a platform for this. A service safari was also made to Norrbotten to better understand the need for and the challenges with the charging infrastructure. Based on the results, the analysis is that this project had the wrong timing as the maturity and the ambassadors of electric cars do not have a critical mass yet and that focus should be on SME instead.
