Important results from the project

The goal of this project was to ascertain whether products based on Novamia’s patented methods for segmentation (delineation) of anatomical structures in medical images can be used for 3D-printing to be used for planning of surgery. The results of the project show that the methods can be used not only for surgical planning, but also in the process of producing implants to be placed in a patient. Thus the goal of the project was exceeded.

Expected long term effects

The results of the project point to new possibilities for utilising segmentation techniques and 3D printing in connection with surgery. In the longer perspective, this may contribute to improved public health and to increased economic growth in Sweden.

Approach and implementation

Early in the project, a potential customer was identified, a company specialised in fabricating material to me implanted in patients. Software was developed for this customer, resulting in a business agreement that will be of great importance for Novamia.
