Project duration | November 2012 - October 2013 |
Status | Completed |
Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to form a consortium which in a Swedish/Chinese future collaboration could take on the problem of aluminium recycling. The goal of the projects is considered to be fulfilled. a feasability study illustrating the potential of the LIBS technology has been performed and a Swedish/Chinese consortium has in a joint effort written two synchronized research proposals submitted to VINNOVA/MOST.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in a technical study illustrating the LIBS tehcnology´s potential regarding rapiud aluminium analysis. It is clear that the technology shows great promise with regard to alloy classification. Furthermore, the project has resulted in a joint application written by Swerea KIMAB, Acreo, Stena Recycling, Lizhong and SJTU.
Approach and implementation
The project consisted of laboratory tests at Swerea KIMAB in combination with industrial trials at Stena Recycling and Outokumpu Stainless. The consortium formation was built on personal visits. Prioir to the visits discussions with colleagues in or from China took place. A one week trip to China has been carried out under which a number of visits to professional organsiations, private companies and universities took place.
