Important results from the project
The project aimed to help improve the rescue services’ possibility for effective and safe F&R operations by improving the resolution of positioning systems, examining the possibilities for monitoring and information exchange, as well as providing decision support for the use of wearable technology. The project would also, based on the results, develop decision support and education material. The purpose and objectives of the project have been fulfilled, but the increased opportunities for positioning have been achieved through the independent progress on the market.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to contribute to an equipment that is better suited for the underground environment, through collaboration between researchers, emergency services and manufacturers. The result is also expected to contribute to an increased knowledge for both emergency service personnel and future engineers. The project has created long-term sustainable relationships between researchers, society and the business community, which continues after the project has ended.
Approach and implementation
The project consortium consisted of partners from both industry and society. Given the development that has taken place in parallel with the project with another main purpose for the improved positioning, but with technology that can also support a F&R operation a closer cooperation with new partners should have been sought already during the project. Some of the partners were more active at the beginning but became discussion partners later in the project when the results did not fully match their direction. Collaboration between researchers, educators and the F&R has been good.
