Important results from the project
Winfoor has developed a new technology for wind turbine rotor blades. The preliminary study´s goal was to verify the technology, analyze its business potential and protect its IPR. This has been carried out and the results are positive.
Expected long term effects
The results of the preliminary study show that the technology meets the expectations and offers an opportunity to produce blades that are stronger, longer and much lighter than is the case with traditional technology. The blades also show good aerodynamic properties. The pending patent application is expected to provide a broad protection for the technology. Furthermore, we see great interest from industry for the technology, that can potentially make Winfoor one of the leading suppliers of rotor blades for wind turbines.
Approach and implementation
In the preliminary study, we have worked on developing a realistic CAD model and analyze it in terms of different load scenarios and fluid mechanics (CFD). We have built a prototype and tested it in a wind tunnel. The test results confirm the CFD calculations. A patent application has been filed, a market research has been done and marketing materials has been developed. We have further produced a plan for a future development project.
