Important results from the project
During the competition it was obvious how happy and interested all the students were. They inspired each other and got ideas for future competitions. Several interested schools could not participate this year, but they want to participate next year and hopefully the competition can grow. After the competition we have been in contact with participants that are staring up a technology club for kids and youth. We see all these things as an indication that we have succeeded with our goal to inspire and increase the interest for robotics and technology!
Expected long term effects
When speaking with the teachers afterwards all of them have been positive towards RoboCup Junior as a competition. They want it to be arranged in several places in Sweden so that they do not have to travel as far. Many of the students have spent a lot of time outside of schedule on the project. The Swedish teams are in a high class internationally, with a victory in the Dance class this year! I am convinced that several of them have discovered a new field of interest and will continue on in a technological field! We hope that the competition will grow (in Rescue B and dance) with at least 10% next year.
Approach and implementation
The preparation and execution of the competition and the international event went without any big problems. As organizers we have learned a lot and here are some things to improve for next year: 1. Make sure that everyone with important tasks sleeps before and during the event! 2. Have more volunteers to help us during the event. 3. Put more effort into marketing! Start hunting participants and volunteers earlier, which will be easier now when we have an organization and a webpage. 4. Plan the meals better. Have a person with responsibility over the food. 5. Document the event better.
