Important results from the project

The purpose of this feasibility study was to design an implementation plan for Digital Winter Road Surface Information. The goal is to stimulate and evaluate innovative solutions that increase productivity in winter road maintenance on Swedish roads. The implementation plan contains a proposal on how to design a so-called reality lab for Digital Winter Road Surface Information.

Expected long term effects

The study has resulted in an implementation plan for so-called Reality Lab for Digital Winter Road surface Information that will stimulate innovation in the technology by: - Create opportunities for different players to test, evaluate and further develop their technologies. - Provide different user groups with the opportunity to test and evaluate the impact of technology such as increased productivity, increased road safety, less negative environmental impacts and better traffic management information. - Provide the opportunity to test and evaluate various business models.

Approach and implementation

The implementation plan describes activities, organization, budget, schedule and participating actors. Industrial actors participating in reality labeling are contractors, weather forecast providers, technology consultants, vehicle data providers, universities. Four contracts in four geographical areas are selected as test arenas. To implement the Reality Lab for Digital Winter Road surface Information, Trafikverket will need to procure road friction data. Many kind of innovation procurement may be relevant depending on the nature of the project.
