RISE Cyber Range

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB - RISE Cybersecurity Lab, Kista
Funding from Vinnova SEK 8 000 000
Project duration September 2019 - December 2023
Status Completed

Important results from the project

Many small and medium-sized companies often lack the resources and infrastructure to perform this type of test. The new site in Kista is a way to make test and demo environments for cyber security available to customers and partners. It will also be a natural place for skills development and training where it is easy to gain access to expertise. The Cyber Range is now operational, and we offer a variety of courses tailored for diverse audiencesfrom CEOs, board members, and decision-makers to software developers at the other end.

Expected long term effects

Cyber Range is a test bed managed by RISE and initially (partly) funded by Vinnova, where you can build a virtual environment that is completely controlled, and offer tools for creating stable and secure IT systems. We have fulfilled our objectives, and the Cyber Range is physically built, software platform developed, and initial set of courses prepared and being offered. The physical building is protected against unauthorized entry according to SSF 130:8 skyddsklass 3 standards, sound insulated to R’w 44 dB, and electromagnetically shielded to FM SS1 standard.

Approach and implementation

Now that we have successfully constructed the range and acquired the hardware and software, the six different activities offered in the range are: 1. On-site cybersecurity education, training, and exercises. 2. Penetration testing of digital products and services with high secrecy. 3. Creation, testing, and monitoring of digital replicas of connected systems, such as energy and factories. 4. Secure storage and processing of datasets and a secure cyber discussion arena. 5. Cybersecurity research infrastructure. 6. Cybersecurity Certification (currently being developed).
