Important results from the project
Our aim was to create a functional prototype for a device that ensures sufficient blood volume sampling while minimizing the risk of contamination by skin flora in collection of blood cultures.
Expected long term effects
The prototype was developed and the patent granted in United Kingdom. However the project could not be completed as described in the application due to unexpected challenges.
Approach and implementation
The method can be implemented in the clinical routine in future allowing standardization of sampling of blood in blood culture based diagnosis.
