Important results from the project
The project itself has not led to a direct simplification of the building permit process. However, we have reached the goal of exploring whether AI (image recognition) can be a good tool for this. We see that the solution can provide good support for the applicant but it´s a lot of work left. We have achieved the goal of creating organizational learning about AI both in the building permit department and in other departments within the municipality (e.g. law, IT, procurement).
Expected long term effects
By continuing to develop the solution, the following external benefits can be achieved: - Easier for the applicant to do the right thing from the start and thus less need for completion - Higher quality benefits for those applicants who receive direct feedback The focus is on continuing to develop the solution with others. Today, a large focus within public Sweden is on collaboration. A successful collaboration can create learning about how municipalities can collaborate around AI.
Approach and implementation
We followed our plan with our various work packages. We feel that these were the right activities. However, we had not planned for procurement. The delivery from our consultants of the annotation tool took longer and we had less time to tag. Our RFI showed that the price indication we received for the application only covered half of the development costs and we had to limit the project to only reviewing whether the parameters existed or not and not reviewing their quality.
