Important results from the project
This project aimed to both technically and commercially validate and verify the business concept. The demonstration of clinical, financial and technical feasibility represents a lowered risk which is important for enabling the future commercialisation.
Expected long term effects
The support from Vinnova enabled the company to go from manufacturing in a laboratory setting to an industrial manufacturing environment. The implants have been tested by independent teams of surgeons. The company has attracted investors in two rounds during the project. The first agreements for distribution are set and continuous negotiations are ongoing.
Approach and implementation
Manufacturing of resorbable implants represents advanced manufacturing processes those materials are sensitive. In order to save time and minimize cost an external industrial contract manufacturer was used. The transfer of our know-how of the manufacturing process took a lot longer than originally anticipated. Likewise, distributors were hesitant to take on a completely new product/technology, where the smaller companies were typically more likely to embrace the product and finalize the decision making process.
