Important results from the project

The goals were met. We have networked and together developed a proposal for a continuation of EU-rail and the FUTURE project. This includes both technical aspects and human factors. A low latency video solution will be tested. An improved methodology for measuring latency will be developed and integrated. Another important step is to install the video system in a real full-size locomotive to evaluate the performance in a real environment over a longer period of time.

Expected long term effects

The project was an important piece of the puzzle for planning and applying for continued funding in EU rail. The long-term effects will be increased research and development in remote control of railways in Sweden.

Approach and implementation

We have had some team meetings with DLR and SNCF, among others. We have also networked at a conference in Nice. Planning and discussion of an international thesis with students in France and Italy. Meetings with NTNU: Discussed this proposal for wave 2 and planned the spring field study. Meetings with Malcolm Lundgren at the Swedish Transport Administration: Discussed proposal for wave 2, scope and structure. Meetings with Green Cargo, discussed collaboration and funding opportunities.
