Important results from the project

Of the 30 people with confirmed IBS who were included in the prototype project, 21 completed the four-week digital dietary treatment. This group achieved a clinically relevant effect on their IBS. IBS symptoms were measured using the "Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptom Severity Score." At the start of the project, participants had an average symptom score of 314, which is considered severe symptoms. After the project, their score was 167, which is considered mild symptoms.

Expected long term effects

In the prototype, we tested delivering dietary treatments for the widespread condition IBS digitally. The positive results mean we will seek funding for a larger clinical study, aiming to establish the scientific foundation needed to implement the treatment in healthcare. Currently, people with IBS does not always receive the help they need for their digestive issues. A digital dietary treatment offers a cost-effective way to treat many patients and can provide more equitable care.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out largely as planned, but took longer than anticipated. Of the 30 people included in the project, 21 completed it. They provided valuable feedback on how the digital platform could be improved. We also conducted a survey among the political parties governing Sweden´s regions regarding their preventive health efforts. The survey provided less detailed information than we had hoped but allows for continued engagement with the parties.
