Important results from the project
The aim was to realise the test bed. There is today a realistic suggestion for a setup of the test bed. The following are developed: - The technical design of the test bed is developed with potential customers. - Financial setups for the construction and operation phase. - Organisational structure for the construction and operation phase with forms of ownership and financing, - Customers who are willing to invest and signing long-term contract of use. Existing rail. bridges. culverts, etc are inspected to make better calculations.
Expected long term effects
The test bed will provide opportunities to: - Enhancing innovation in the railway industry, especially in the Swedish railway industry in which about 25,000 are employed today. - Strengthen the competitiveness of railway, thus reducing the environmental impact of transport. Railway is an environmental friendly mode of transport that has a very low greenhouse gas emissions. - Generating export earnings by foreign companies that test their products on the test track. - Be unique in Europe regarding winter tests and test at high speeds.
Approach and implementation
The project was implemented in a wide way with a variety of contacts/ activities simultaneously. It has been the Sami communities, forest owners, hunters, local residents, politicians, train manufactures, universities, professional organisations at national level, financial institutions, consultants, and our project partners. The most important factors for the success of the project has been: - Broad approach - Strong interest and support from potential customers - Strong political support - Support from Vinnova, both financial and otherwise.
