R2R-HET -Roll-to-roll Hybrid Printed Electronics Manufacturing

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 300 000
Project duration August 2024 - February 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture The strategic innovation programme Electronic Components and Systems:
Call Electronic components & systems - research and innovation projects 2024

Purpose and goal

The project aims to develop and validate a concept that enables and establishes a state-of-the-art, roll-to-roll production capacity in Sweden that can handle both the printing of printed electronics and the assembly of conventional electronics in the same production line and on the same substrate roll in high volume.

Expected effects and result

Making production capacity available for hybrid printed electronics eliminates the barrier to developing and manufacturing products based on this technology. This in turn can lead to increased electronics production in Sweden. The project partners represent a vertical which contributes to the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also to increased understanding of the business models. Both of these effects will improve the conditions for reaching the system goal: Available manufacturing capacity in Sweden for cost-effective electronics assembly on flexible substrates.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is planned to be implemented in 7 work packages (AP) over 18 months. The work packages have a limited scope and are run independently, but cooperation between all parties and work packages is required to achieve successful results. To ensure this, regular project meetings will be held where the progress of the work packages is shared and risks and problems are managed. The aim is to borrow/rent the majority of the equipment needed to validate the concepts.
