Important results from the project

To strengthen their position in the lightweight value chain, Brogrens must expand its expertise in forming of advanced materials for lightweight applications. The project´s activities were therefore focused on broadening the lightweight competencies by building new competence in forming of lightweight materials. In the project, a conceptual process chain was developed which was then optimized with the help of FE simulation tools. The project documentation led to Brogrens being able to make the necessary investments for the formation of lightweight components.

Expected long term effects

The project has strengthened Brogrens Industries competitiveness by broadening their lightweight offering by developing new expertise in delivering formed components in advanced materials. The new developed competence has also increased the company’s attractiveness to international customers. Direct results of the project are the capability to offer new products formed in-house. The project focuses on aerospace components and materials, but the results applicable to all industries where difficult to form materials is used, for example for gas turbines.

Approach and implementation

In order to meet the tolerance requirements for aerospace components, forming processes were optimized in the project. Numerical simulation was used for optimization. The following activities were conducted: 1. Conceptual production chain 2. Gap analysis of competence 3. Optimization of production chain 4. Realization of new lightweight value chain.
