Purpose and goal
GENE-BRIDGE is a Swedish-British collaboration to create an international database for childhood cancer research by integrating genetic and clinical data from Sweden and the UK. The aim is to create datasets of childhood cancer genomes and develop solutions for improved diagnosis, treatment and survival chances for children with cancer. The project is part of the development of precision medicine and AI-based research in paediatric oncology and the establishment of data sharing infrastructure.
Expected effects and result
The expected outcomes of the project include a Swedish-British database integrating genetic and clinical data for childhood cancer research. This will enable AI-driven research, improved diagnostics and personalised treatment, as well as increased survival rates and reduced long-term health problems in children with cancer. The project promotes international collaboration and creates a foundation for future research through an international data platform.
Planned approach and implementation
GENE-BRIDGE builds on a data platform developed within the BrainChild initiative and establishes an international collaboration with the UK to enable international validation of software prototypes developed within BrainChild. Once clinical data are curated and a joint cohort with NHS England is established, data will be integrated and evaluated in the open data repository (BrainChild). Legal preparations for data exchange and applications for long-term funding are carried out in parallel.
