Important results from the project

The identified innovation has great potential to solve an annual recurring railway infrastructure problem, namely, that gears are freezing. Major rail investment are planned across the country, so the timing for the introduction of a new technology is good - it can be applied to both existing and planned rail networks. The innovation is also expected to have a big impact in a relatively short period of time. There is also great potential for collaborating on various development projects. The innovation has a direct climate benefit, as it reduces the energy consumption of heat exchangers.

Expected long term effects

We are pleased with the outcome of the competition. A winner and four strong finalists have been selected, all have a TRL level between 4-6 and high innovation height. The winning contribution/innovation has great potential to solve a major problem for the rail infrastructure - freezing switches. The innovation is expected to have good conditions for exports to countries in Europe, as well as North America and North Asia. The winner´s solution has a direct and indirect climate benefit. Reduces energy consumption for heat exchange and contributes to sustainable social development.

Approach and implementation

In this competition, we wanted to find and develop new exciting innovations that could be applied together with industry entrepreneurs and become future export successes. The competition demanded solutions that were not available today and which can contribute to environmentally sustainable infrastructure in the future, focusing on the environment, climate and energy. Examples of this could be solutions in energy recovery, energy consumption, material recycling or other things that affect climate change positively. We estimate that this went well and according to plans.
