Important results from the project

The objective is to develop models for heat transfer and friction during simultaneous forming and quenching of boron steel (i.e the press hardening process).

Expected long term effects

The advanced models for friction and heat transfer that are to be developed will be implemented in the LS-Dyna code. LS-Dyna is used for thermo mechanical forming simulations. Expected results are improved accuracy of the forming simulations with respect of mechanical- and material properties and geometry.

Approach and implementation

Research work will be carried out at Luleå University of Technology. Experiments and industrial implemention of models in the FE-code will be carried out at Gestamp HardTech.
