Important results from the project
The aim with the verification was to find an additional commercial segment for low process temperature PVD-coatings at Oerlikon Balzers. The investigated combination of substrate, pretreatments and low temperature PVD is interesting for some end users and will be further investigated after this project´s completion.
Expected long term effects
After coating with low temperature PVD it has been shown that the increased load carrying capacity of the surface made prior to coating, also remains after coating. This increases the usability of components in machining applications.
Approach and implementation
With the help of Swerea SWECAST and Indexator Rototilt Systems, suitable substrates were produced which were pretreated by Kärcher and subsequently PVD-coated and tested regarding adhesion by Oerlikon Balzers Sandvik Coating. The topography was analyzed by Indexator Rototilt Systems and the residual stresses were measured by Swerea IVF. Different combinations were tested and the best results are in line to be verified by applying them on real components after the project´s completion.
