Important results from the project
The project develops eligibility requirements so that smaller municipalities can, in cooperation, build up sensor networks and administer them. This enables the loan of personal resources and joint IoT procurements. Commercial forces are rarely interested in smaller towns. The municipality must take the lead and in order to be economically and personnel efficient, the smaller municipalities must coordinate to gain access to IoT infrastructure, enabling the creation and use of data-driven innovations that contributes to sustainable societies even in smaller municipalities.
Expected long term effects
A collaboration between the municipalities around IoT should be created. By allowing the municipalities to use any IoT platform but creating APIs through which the data is transferred to a common IoT information platform, conditions are created for effective value creation from the collected data. Since the data is standardized according to defacto standards recommended by the EU, the municipalities can more easily share people with deep competence in various report/analysis tools. As the data is unified and stored in long time series, it is also a source of training data for AI models.
Approach and implementation
The project group drew up a list of questions to which they wanted answers. Afterwards, seminars and project meetings were held where the issues were discussed. The results of the discussions were documented in a draft preliminary study report that was arranged based on the architecture layers that Inera´s architecture community uses. The document was reviewed several times by the project group. Then, all the municipalities, as well as the energy companies in the county, were invited to a consultation meeting where they could give their views. The document is revised based on these.
