Important results from the project

We have fulfilled the project´s aim and objective, which was to build on our previous feasibility study. The previous study was about creating porous graphene structures to use as electrode material in batteries and supercapacitors and to further develop the use of green graphene in energy storage. We have formed a project consortium with companies that represent all parts of the value chain for green graphene and submitted a complete proposal for a demonstrator project. The project consortium consists of Ligna Energy AB, Bright Day Graphene AB and RISE Bio and Organic Electronics.

Expected long term effects

Initially we wanted a battery company and a supercapacitor manufacturer in the consortium, but since Ligna Energy makes both batteries and supercapacitors, we can further develop both tracks together with them. We also conducted a patent search on the porous graphene structures to ensure that we have Freedom to Operate. The results showed that a lot has been done in the area, and that our way of building porous structures has been published before. We will therefore not be able to obtain a patent, but the published articles in the area still give us Freedom To Operate

Approach and implementation

The layout for this project worked well for this context, as the implementation did not encounter too many problems. We managed to complete all three work packages and the main goals are met with some adjustments. We did not have time to complete the project agreements, which was included in the risk and management analysis. In the third work package, the outcome was a less than expected when the patent search showed that we could not patent our solution. But because of the amount of already published articles, we can still have Freedom To Operate.
