Important results from the project
The project aim has been to increase the utilization of PIEp research and strengthens the long-term growth of innovation capability in Swedish industry. Innovation Pilots highlight challenges, give companies greater insight in their own work with innovation, and provide them with tools. The project also aimed to increase the knowledge and ability among our students, thereby increase their attractiveness as future employees, at the same time as achieving greater scalability in the utilization of the latest research.
Expected long term effects
The students have made practical work to increase innovation capability in totally 29 different organizations. The project gained results such as; development of new innovation strategies; a more distinct description of the connections between strategies and action plans, or new metrics for innovation. Besides that, we can outcomes for the students such as; continuous collaboration with the companies through thesis work, employment, and a great personal development. A follow-up study showed that the results and effects are still present one year after project completion.
Approach and implementation
The project The Innovation Pilots has consisted of 44 students and 9 researchers executing 348 weeks of work, 13 920 hours in companies. The students conducted 590 company interviews, gathered 1240 surveys answers, and arranged about 64 workshops. Within the project a number of research results were developed as methods. Selected students were trained and educated in these methods. With the support from researchers within innovation and design, the students conducted an analysis of innovation capability in companies, made an action plan followed by work in creative workshops.
