Important results from the project
The goal of this project was to increase the understanding of the project university and industrial partner on how neutron techniques can be used in order to obtain physico-chemical properties of oxidized and reduced xylan in bulk and in films.
Expected long term effects
We finish the project with elevated understanding of the possibilities of neutron scattering but also the art of beamline applications. We have investigated on how and what physico-chemical properties of naturally derived polymers are needed for the industry to enable actual use of such polymers. We have created a network, despite the pandemic, to facilitate our research endeavors targeting to elucidate the polymeric properties of polysaccharides in the future.
Approach and implementation
The properties of the natural polymers in solution remain the challenge of analysis with neutron scattering but also of their exploitation in materials engineering. We have created a neutron scattering analysis network within the project consortium that is available for tackling future research questions.
