Important results from the project
The participating PhD-students have gained an increased knowledge and understanding for the situation for manufacturing companies and how the research performed in the universities can be applied in an industrial environment. The course has also increased the student´s cultural knowledge about Eastern Europe.
Expected long term effects
The knowledge gained during the course can hopefully simplify cooperation between Swedish companies and universities and their counterparts in Europe.
Approach and implementation
The course participants have prepared the entire trip, including the financing, on their own as a part of the course. In preparation for the tour through Europe eight Swedish manufacturing companies were visited. During a two week long tour through Hungary, Check Republic, Slovakia and Poland 13 manufacturing companies were visited together with two universities. A comparing study between all the companies has been published in a report. Some of the main topics for the comparisons are production costs, lean-development, automation levels and the use of visual tools.
