Important results from the project
The ultimate objective of OsMet S2+ is to simultaneously protect natural resources and contribute to the global sustainable development by upgrading and using secondary lime materials for the metal production. The specific objectives are: - Mapping of secondary lime materials: availability and characterization; - Further investigate and validate the proposed concepts via laboratory work and pilot trials - Identify the potential global benefits and markets on using secondary lime materials - Extend the global network and develop business model towards a global implementation
Expected long term effects
The main results from the project are following: - A comprehensive literature review about lime production, utilization and handling was conducted - The pilot trials in the EAF test bed at Swerim was successfully performed to validate and prove this concept - OsMet S2+ facilitated building up an international collaboration platform involving top academic partners and more industries in the world, and it is an important step towards the global industrial implementation of upgrading and using the secondary lime materials for the metallurgical application and beyond.
Approach and implementation
In order to smoothly perform the proposed project of OsMet S2+, the work is divided into four distinctive work packages (WPs). In WP1, survey and mapping of secondary lime materials were conducted; We performed pilot trials to validate the proposed concept of upgrading and using secondary lime materials in WP2; Identification of the global markets and potential benefits were investigated in WP3; The international cooperation platform was further extended with efforts from all project partners in WP4 by means of organizing and attending seminars, workshops and conferences, etc.
