Important results from the project
Part of the purpose and aims of the project have been accomplished, others still require more work. The upgrade of prototype reactors has been successful. Tests of small-scale prototypes have been performed. Design of control systems and gas measurement for larger prototype reactors has been initiated. We still work on Control power potential as well as tangible assets and look forward to the opportunities in these areas. We are satisfied with the accomplishments during the project. Although, the amount of time needed to spend on problem solving have been underestimated.
Expected long term effects
The results of the project have been mostly positive, however, the complexity of the biological systems examined have been underestimated. Thus, further tests are needed to enable the systems to be scaled up. Tests of stability and ability to clean the gas have been positive. Tests of biogas production and degree of degradation have partly been positive but incomplete due to failing equipment. Thanks to the project, FarmBioTech has been able to further develop its system and we will continue to do so and expect to complete an application for the next step in Vinnovas startup program.
Approach and implementation
Overall the layout for the project has been good. However, the time needed for difficulties and challenges that have arisen during the project was underestimated. Working with biological systems is very challenging. This made it hard to estimate how much time different parts of the project would require. From an efficiency perspective, I believe this way of doing research and development is very good. Carrying out a similar project at a university would cost several times more. However, this comes from the risk that the entrepreneur takes, but that is also the reality of all startups.
