Important results from the project
The project idea is to utilize graphene´s outstanding spin curren life times and use these spin currents to drive spintronic nano-oscillators in the microwave frequency range. The goals have been largely met. Both Co and NiFe have now successfully been grown and patterned on graphene and their magnetodynamic properties have been measured with spin wave microscopy. The Chalmers group has also successfully demonstrated bow the substrate bias can tune the spin currents in graphene.
Expected long term effects
The project has demonstrated that the frequency and line width of spin waves can be controlled with the help of spin currents in graphene. The project has also demonstrated that the spin current in graphene can be controlled by the substrate bias.
Approach and implementation
The project has been coordinated by the leading SME in the development of spintronic devices and has brought together Sweden´s strongest players in spin currents in graphene (Chalmers) and spintronic nano-oscillators (University of Gothenburg). The project has been a successful collaboration between the three parties which all contributed their respective expertise in materials, material characterization, lithography, spin wave measurements and microwave measurements. The has also enabled the participants to conduct further research in the EU Graphene Flagship project.
