Call SIP InfraSweden: Increased circularity for the transport infrastructure

Purpose and goal

The project aims to increase recycling of rock and earth materials in infrastructure construction and reduce the climate impact from handling and transportation of the materials. The objective is to increase the clients knowledge of mass logistics surfaces, at system level, with digital support for information and transport flow and necessary prerequisites based on environmental and social considerations.

Expected effects and result

The project´s expected results are to overcome the uncertainty that upgrading of project-generated masses to circular soil and aggregate materials suffers from today. Expected effect is reduced need for newly produced aggregate material from quarry and reduced the amount of waste. The solutions for mass logistics surfaces will be used and implemented by Trafikverket Ostlänken, Norrköping and Jönköping, as well as the companies Econova, Swerock and ABT companies. Project results have good conditions for scalability due to the broad representation of differetn clients.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be based on the demonstration of different types of logistics areas. These different types of surfaces are discussed based on conditions, permits and adaptations for the environment. and social considerations. The system of different types of surfaces needed within an area is then analysed and the system´s effects in the form of transport efficiency, material circularity and emissions are modelled. The result forms a knowledge base for, above all, public clients. The effects and the basis for decisions are communicated and disseminated on an ongoing basis.
