Operational plan Stage 2 for Berzelii Centre EXSELENT

Reference number
Coordinator Stockholms universitet - Institutionen för material- och miljökemi
Funding from Vinnova SEK 30 000 000
Project duration January 2009 - December 2011
Status Completed

Important results from the project

Berzelii centre EXSELENT aims at combining high class research on porous materials with development of specific applications. It is intended to develop preparation methods for new porous materials with controlled pore size and functionalisation of those. Three application areas have been identified: heterogeneous catalysis, gas separation, and bioceramics.

Expected long term effects

It is expected that Berzelii centre EXSELENT will take a leading role nationally and the centre also aim at being internationally leading within research on porous materials. High class research with inorganic synthesis, organic synthesis and theoretical modelling are combined and it is expected that unique competence will develop so that the centre can act as a platform for innovative research and commercialization.

Approach and implementation

A stearing board and a scientific advisory board has been appointed. The daily work is administrated by a centre director, a vice centre director and a secretary/economy administrator. The projects have to the main part focus on basic research where the project leaders actively work to strengthen the collaboration with existing industry partners and to involve more partners. Several senior researchers with different but complemetary specialities in chemistry colaborate within Berzelii Centre EXSELENT. A number of PhD students, postdocs and research assitants have been engaged in the centre.
