Important results from the project
The project´s aim was to produce a film presenting some key arguments for open data that was straightforward and short. The target group is mainly politicians and policy makers, and the film may be used by both Wikimedia Sverige and other Wikimedia chapters but also others who want to raise awareness of the benefits of open data. A short introductory film can not exhaustively explain all aspects of open data, but must focus on highlighting the basic conditions and the positive effects to grab the viewer´s interest.
Expected long term effects
The film is a few minutes long and has an easy appeal. This, together with it being freely available and easy to use makes it useful not only for organizations, but is also useful to inform the general public. Since there is a very small number of easy-to-understand introduction movies for open data the movie fulfills a clear need.
Approach and implementation
The project started with the creation of a plan for deliverables. This was adjusted when the cooperation with Simpleshow Foundation started. Wikimedia Sverige compilled facts and arguments and from that created a script and later a storyboard that was developed based on both internal and external feedback as well as feedback from the Simpleshow Foundation. Simpleshow Foundation animated the script to a finished film that was distributed through YouTube and Wikimedia Commons. The script itself is available on Wikimedia Commons.
