Oils from residual biomass - an industrial production platform for wax esters

Important results from the project

The aim is to create a project that utilizes forest industry flows as a raw material for the production of wax esters. The aim was to create a project proposal that developed the yeast-based biotechnology, and at the same time developed a sugar platform by fractionation of sawdust.

Expected long term effects

The pre-study has achieved the goal and created a project proposal with good prerequisites for the successful completion of the project, as well as the prospects for the project to find good economic conditions for the valorization of sawdust, based on initial techno-economic studies.

Approach and implementation

We analyzed and approached stakeholders in the value chain. Based on our strengths, the consortium can be considered the strongest in Sweden (Fractionation of Biomass to Sugar & Lignin, and Yeast Biotechnology).
