Important results from the project
The off-peak city logistics project, both setp 1 and the additional project, together aim at investigating the impacts and effects that can be gained by rescheduling city dirstribution transports to off-peak hours when traffic intensity is low (evenings, nights, early mornings) and when traffic with heavy vehicles in general are prohibited in the city center. The aim was also to develop a first suggestion for rules and regulations that can be used for upscaling of off-peak deliveries. Those aims have been reached in the project.
Expected long term effects
The tests that has been performed and the knowledge built from the tests, based on interviews, data analysis and simulations, has given increased knowledge about benefits and costs related to off-peak distribution. Over all the benefits exceeds the costs, and the expected effects of the project is that the performance of night time deliveries in Stockholm will continue in different types of pilots. For both Scania and Volvo have input for product development been created, and this is expected to lead to more competitive products.
Approach and implementation
The project has been built up around two pilots for off-peak distribution. The two pilots have used different logistic settings and different vehicle technology. The pilots have been evaluated from four different perspectives, by different research groups: noise, transport efficiency, users & stakeholders, and socio-economic. The project partners have met regularly. Basically all different stakeholders in the logistic chain have been involved in the project, and that has been a key success factor. Also the broad span of research competences has been a key.
