Important results from the project
In the project, a new traceability chain for radiation thermometry has been established at the National Laboratory for temperature. The new traceability chain is based on 3 different reference points, an existing gold fixed point (1064.18 °C) and two new eutectic fixed points, consisting of a metal alloy. Within the project, a self-designed fixed point of cobalt-carbon (Co-C, 1324 °C) was developed and a platinum-carbon (Pt-C, 1738 °C) fixed point from NPL was installed. These reference points have shown very good consistency with the linear pyrometer at the National Laboratory.
Expected long term effects
The new reference points ensure internationally accepted traceability, which by the linear pyrometer of the National Laboratory can be transferred to the industry´s needs of accurate contact-less temperature measurements. The establishing of these reference points also provides the necessary basis for providing lower measurement uncertainties through updated CMC values, thus meeting future requirements. Furthermore, the project has provided very good experience and competence for participation in future research projects in the field.
Approach and implementation
The project has been completed over 3 years at the National Laboratory for temperature. A combination of available human resources and delivery times for critical parts has resulted in a revision of the project time schedule. A larger work effort has therefore been carried out during the last year of the project. By involving several project participants, different interim goals have been achieved in parallel and the project has been completed as planned.
