Project duration July 2013 - January 2015
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project´s main goal is to develop a new composite with high performance and a significantly lower price by replacing the matrix material with a low cost alternative. The goal is also to introduce this new composite material into the market. The research results fulfill the objective of the project with successful material processing and outstanding thermal and mechanical performance. At the same time, some companies have asked for samples and gave us positive feedback. This output gives us the confidence to introduce the material into the market within 1-3 years.

Expected long term effects

A promising thermal conductivity and low thermal resistance has achieved with the new developed thermal interface material. The introduction of polymer fiber decreases the stiffness of metal matrix, which is considered to contribute for the good thermomechanical performance of the material. All these results show the potential that the material is suitable for large die application which needs better thermal dissipation in electronic systems. For the company, we generate a patent during the project, enhance our competence on thermal management and create the job opportunity.

Approach and implementation

5.The concept of nanofiber-metal based composites as thermal interface material is unique. There is no such product in market yet at the moment. We are going to do market survey and find out the suitable application for this new developed material. At the same we will continue the test with our potential customers to improve the quality of the material and make adjustment for their applications. A go-to-market strategy will be prepared for production-line set up, manufacturing and commercialization.
