Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to test 1-2 solutions to reduce the use of single-use take-away packaging. The project has carried out tests in the form of only offering these products on request as well as stop wrapping products in plastic. By investigating opportunities for introducing a deposit system for multiple packaging via questionnaires and interviews. The project also has also developed knowledge of the possibilities for property owners to work with tenants regarding their use of disposable packaging and possibilities to sort the waste.
Expected long term effects
The tests show that one can reduce the consumption of single-use take-away packaging relatively easily and that the customers appreciate the change. The surveys also show that customers are positive about the introduction of a deposit system for multiple use packaging. Multiple use packaging means a reduction in environmental impact and also a reduced risk of littering. As far as the landlord´s role is concerned, the results show that there are great opportunities for the influence of tenants through wisely formulated requirements and increased cooperation.
Approach and implementation
The project has been carried out in collaboration with Panini Internazionale, Wayne’s Coffee and Holy Greens, Keep Sweden Tidy, Ragn-Sells and Vasakronan. At the restaurants, tests in the form of not offering disposable products other than on request and tests of not plastering products have been carried out. In the project, we have conducted surveys (to customers and staff of the chains and to Vasakronan´s staff), we have also interviewed several interesting actors. Vasakronan has worked with the landlord´s role through an internal workshop.
