Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to develop an endoscopic instrument for automated diagnosis and treatment of cancer, precursors to cancer and several other disease states in the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. The instrument has all the functions needed form an intervention to both diagnose and treat at the same time on an awake patient. The goal is to perform preclinical studies with the instrument and to complete the regulatory documentation before a clinical trial.

Expected effects and result

The expected effects of the project are a cost-effective treatment of cancer in the esophagus, stomach and duodenum with diagnosis and treatment at the same time of care and with a single instrument. The patients get better access to care as the instrument does not require an operating room or the same number of staff as today. The instrument is also more user-friendly than today´s and requires only a short training time for the staff.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will have four work packages. WP1 is overall coordination and project management including project agreement, budget follow-up, reporting, meetings and dissemination of project results. WP2 will work with regulatory activities and product development. WP3 will contain preclinical studies and biocompatibility for the safety studies required for the instrument before a clinical study. WP4 will focus on business development and contact with gastro-clinics for information about the instrument.
