Important results from the project
The purpose was to help children with needle-sticks procedures through a digital game with or without VR functionality. The goal was also to increase the children´s participation and understanding of the procedure and so reduce their distress. The solution, now called "Prick Adventure", is both a preventive and facilitating stimulation and may work distantly of the trauma that repeated needle sticks can cause. With Prick Adventure, we hope to reduce distress for many children. The objective of the project was to also include VR, but was changed to AR due to the children´s own wishes.
Expected long term effects
The goal was to reach children 5-15 years and that we would develop an innovative solution that facilitates and prepares for needle stick. Through workshops and testing together with children and health care personnel, a new solution was designed. The result became a mobile app as a preparatory and rehabilitative solution as well as an AR game that can be used as a new distraction method. Testing has been on a small-scale level and the effects are therefore difficult to assess. There are plans to conduct clinical studies after project release.
Approach and implementation
The planned activities have followed the expected plan. The cooperation between the parties has worked well, where a good structure has been found for joint reconciliations. A central part of the implementation was the co-creation and collection of feedback with the target group, which has worked well. The launch has been postponed as we needed to create a business plan that was feasible. In other aspects, the project has been kept to the original plan in accordance with the project plan we created, both in terms of time and resources from the parties involved.
