Important results from the project
The aim of the project was to increase the public´s interest and participation in research and nature conservation decisions by making findings collected via the app Biologg available via SLU Artdatabanken´s (Adb) services. This has been achieved, which means that there is now a more beginner-friendly way for citizens to contribute with citizen research data on biological diversity. The project has also contributed to making it easier for other data providers to join in the same way.
Expected long term effects
More than 74,000 findings collected via Biologg are now available via Adb’s services, which means that they can be used by both the public and various actors (e.g. County Administrative Boards and researchers) to protect biological diversity. After the project, Biologg will continue to deliver data regularly. The fact that the data is now available opens up for possible collaborations between Biologg and other actors, which can also increase users´ participation in, for example, nature conservation decisions.
Approach and implementation
Due to the pandemic, the collaboration between Overstellar and Adb has been carried out digitally. This has worked well with regular meetings and workshops. The project has followed the planned approach with initial analysis and workshops followed by development. The collaboration has been very valuable as both parties have been able to discuss and present their needs from different perspectives, which has resulted in improved functions and insights that will be useful even after the project has ended.
