Important results from the project
National Testbed for Innovative Radiotherapy has a common point of entry for coordinated tests and trials in clinical environment at the Swedish university hospitals. The common infrastructure enables efficient collaboration between health care, academia and industry to develop and test innovative products, services and organizational solutions within radiation therapy needed in the healthcare sector. A common framework and a clear test and project process with legal and payment models, creates an effective foundation for collaboration between health care and industry.
Expected long term effects
The national testbed, has with the financial support from Vinnova, created a national innovation infrastructure with frameworks, methodologies, processes and services. The infrastructure enables collaboration between healthcare providers, industry and patients to effectively develop new innovative solutions for healthcare. Development and implementation times are shortened, patients get faster access to effective and safer treatment, healthcare and industry strengthen their competitiveness. Through national collaboration equality of care in Sweden will increase.
Approach and implementation
To initiate the national testbed, much time was allocated to thoroughly examine issues from the parties, all Swedish university hospitals and 7 companies. The open climate during the contracting process created the basis for understanding between actors shaped by different regulations and culture. We established subprojects where actors quickly could test and evaluate prospective testbed services, methods, processes, and business models. Establishing the post project administration proved to be a major challenge, as 7 county councils had to be approached at different levels.
