Important results from the project
The purpose of an impact platform for Urban ecosystem services was to influence priorities in European research programs and to position and strengthen Sweden as a growing resource and pioneer in the field. The platform has positioned the area urban ecosystem services as a Swedish area of strength with a high research and collaboration potential for the entire EU. We have influenced the focus and design of the work program, and have worked to strengthen research, collaboration and innovations around urban ecosystem services, at national and European level.
Expected long term effects
The topic of urban ecosystem services and Nature-based solutions was highlighted in Horizon 2020 with several targeted calls and the topic will, according to our sources at the Commission, continue to be an area of focus in Horizon Europe. Urban ecosystem services has, since the start of the platform, received a lot of focus nationally, including: Government missions to the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, and interim targets in the environmental goal system. Members of the platform participate regularly in, as well as in applications for, European research projects.
Approach and implementation
The process of mapping, advocacy work and consensus and collaboration has proceeded according to a continuous and iterative process. The platform, and its participants, have conducted and participated in several impact events in Brussels. Ongoing dialogue has taken place between all the parties, which contributes actively by attending strategically important meetings at national, Nordic, European and international level, as well as reporting impressions to each other. Contact and exchange of experience with other impact platforms and lobbying organizations has taken place.
