Important results from the project
The overall objective of the project is to provide the market with high performance low friction coatings based on graphene. Substantial goals achieved are to increase understanding of how graphene can improve coating properties such as friction, mechanical strength and abrasion resistance. A solution has been optimized for Epiroc´s chosen component and evaluated in combination with seals from Trelleborg.
Expected long term effects
The new low friction treatment has resulted in reduced friction and abrasion. Rig tests on treated omponents have shown constant low friction during long-term tests.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out in several different work packages. Initially, a comprehensive description of component and treatment requirements was made. The proposed alternatives were discussed with Trelleborg and Applied Nano Surfaces. ANS has in parallell collected critical characteristics profiles from other applications as part of market inquiries. Performance of the treatment has been studied in detail by ANS and the University of Dalarna. The most promising low friction combinations have been tested at Atlas Copco in their purpose built test rig.
